To date, the only 200 euro gold coin from the Federal Republic of Germany (BRD) was minted as a 1oz gold coin in 2002 to mark the introduction of the euro and the transition to the monetary union. The design of the image side of the 200 euro coin comes from the Neuberg artist Anton Zvone Jesovsek and makes the connection Germany's commitment to the new currency is clear.
The inscription on the commemorative coin reads "Transition to monetary union - introduction of the euro".
