In addition to the American Eagle in gold, the so-called “Silver Eagle” is one of the best-known and most popular investment coins. When it was released in 1986, it was the only silver bullion coin in the United States of America. The US Mint has been minting this silver bullion coin with a fineness of 999.0/1000 since 1986. The fine weight of the silver eagle is 1 troy ounce for annual issues. The reverse of the Silver Eagle features an eagle holding a ribbon with the words E Pluribus Unum (Out of the Many, One), the motto of the United States. There are 13 stars depicted above the eagle. These represent the 13 colonies that the United States founded in 1776. Walking Liberty is depicted on the obverse of the coin. Liberty holds oak branches and laurel branches in her hand as a symbol of America's power. The flag of the United States of America is waved around Liberty's shoulders. The sun is rising in front of the female figure, which is very sculpturally designed with 11 rays emanating from the sun.
