First issued in 1995 and now in its third round, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the animals of the Chinese zodiac with a series of annual designs that include Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and pig. This 2021 coin celebrates the Year of the Ox, whose rule over every other year of the 12-year lunar cycle influences people born in 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009 and 2021. Colored Ox with Gold Secret Mark Design The reverse of the coin features an attractive image of an ox and its calf in color. In addition to a depiction of a cherry tree, a symbol of love and beauty, there is a special 1 gram insert on the back with the Chinese character for “ox”. Additional inscriptions included in the design include “OX 2021” and The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark.
