The Krugerrand in silver was first released in 2017. In contrast to the investment coin, this exclusive Krugerrand silver coin is produced in proof by the South African Mint. The silver coin is sold in the original coin case with an accompanying certificate of authenticity. The silver coin is limited to a mintage of 15,000 copies.

The design of the silver coin

On the motif side of the coin there is the portrait of South African President Paul Kruger (1882-1902), who is also the namesake of the coin. The term Rand refers to the South African currency, the Rand. Kruger's portrait is framed by the lettering of the issuing country "SUID-AFRIKA - SOUTH AFRICA". The year of minting and the legendary springbok antelope, the heraldic animal of the Republic of South Africa, are shown on the value side of the coin. In addition, a typical South African semi-desert is shown in the background of the antelope. In addition to indicating the fine weight, the initials "CLS" by the South African sculptor Coert Lourens Steynberg are integrated on the value side.
